OVERVIEW
In collaboration with Fuji Speedway, the event originated as a racing platform aimed at nurturing emerging talent.
Commencing with the inauguration of Fuji Speedway in 1966, the event initially known as the Fuji Holiday Race was established for novice participants. By the following year, 1967, it evolved into the "Fuji Champion Race," marked by a series of monthly races. In 1969, the race underwent a transformation, evolving into a distinct series. However, from 1970 onward, it transitioned into the "Fuji Freshman Race." During this period, six to seven races were conducted annually, serving as a pivotal introduction to motorsports for new drivers. Renowned figures such as Keiichi Tsuchiya, Akira Iida, Manabu Orido, and Masahiko Kondo made their debut at the Fuji Freshman Race.
In 1998, the event reverted to its "Fuji Champion Race" title, briefly halting due to circuit renovations. Subsequently, it recommenced with the circuit's reopening and has persisted to the present day. Presently, the event attracts not only novice drivers but also seasoned amateurs with over a decade of racing experience. Furthermore, there are still veteran amateur participants who have been involved since their initial races as freshmen.
The Fuji Champion Race endures as a grassroots racing event, fostering a sense of familiarity and camaraderie.
